Watercolor, 26 cm x 19 cm

That rose had quite small flowers, a lot of them on a short little branch. The sun from above made some of the petals almost transparent, but my painterly skill was not, and it still isn't such that I could represent it appropriately. The painting was made on 9th of September this year.

Roses are of course an eternal inspiration to painters. The master of roses was that "Raphael of flowers", P. J. Redoute which I already wrote about in the post on >> dahlia. Redoute published a three-volume collection on roses, Les Roses (1817 - 1824) which you can find e.g. in >> Internet Archive (Vol I). The painting below shows his work. The inscription writes: Rosa Gallica Pontiana, Rosier du Pont., Imprimere de Reinond.
