Orchid, 1st of July 2017

I painted orchid (above) on 28th of April this year, indoors. The day was, if I remember it correctly, murky so the painting is mostly diffusely lit, one does not see clear shadows. The flower started to decay. One can see it by his brown edges and I am also not sure whether the white patterns on the petals are a consequence of some viral disease or a mark of the cultivar? It could be both.

I tried to determine the sort and cultivar in question, but the work required quickly disheartened me. The number of types of orchids, namely, is huge, so that one quickly gets lost in all that. This is the task for experts. Instead of looking something similar to my orchid, I opted to show an illustration of a quite different orchid (Oncidium fuscatum), but exceptionally painted, with flowers shown in en face and in profile positions. This is again the illustration from the Flore des serres et des jardin de l’Europe, vol. 18 (1845). The author of the illustration is unknown and the page plantillustrations.org additionally states:
